Training Your Dog

Group and/or private obedience classes are necessary for all dogs and are especially important for a reliable therapy dog. Many Lend A Heart dogs and handlers take regular brush up classes in order to tighten up particular commands in various settings, plus it's simply good for both dog and handler. Taking the right class with the right instructor can be a lot of fun. You may find scheduled classes just the structure you need in order to bring your dog closer and more responsive to you in various settings, and particularly with various distractions.

Should an undesirable behavior arise, you may be asked to refresh yourself and your dog in a group class. Based on one or more of our members' recommendation, the following are trainers/behaviorists in the area offering classes. This is not a complete list of local trainers, and other names can be furnished, if needed. Should you find results from someone else and enjoy them as a trainer, by all means stay working with him/her! The most valuable tool you can have is a quality trainer who has consistently observed you and your dog. Your trainer can give you insight as to why your particular dog reacts to certain objects or situations, and then help you work through any problems.

Again, thank you very much for your interest! If you have additional questions contact us at info@lendaheart.org.

Sincerely,
The LAH New Membership Team
